I just beat Destiny 2: WitchQueen

Image
I finished my playthru of the WitchQueen Campaign and I wanted to share my thoughts for those interested. Keep in mind, I'm a casual fan who just returned to the game after a long hiatus, so there's a lot about the game I still don't know/understand. But I'll mostly be talking from a lore/story point of view anyway. So let's get this out of the way, this was an incredible campaign just like everyone had said. I was worried going in that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but thankfully it did. From the investigative mystery theme, to the pacing of unique encounters, to the story revelations and implications, I think this was probably the best single campaign they've ever done. (I haven't played Lightfall yet, but I've seen... a lot...) I learned quite a lot about the overall story that filled in many missing pieces. I think it did a great job of tying in momentous events of the past while paving the road for the future  final conflict. In many w...

Rebuild of Evangelion

Image
The Rebuild of Evangelion film series is both a retelling and reimagining of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion animated series. It is spanned over 14 years from the first film released in Japan of 2007, to the final one just a few days ago here in North America. It was created to provide an alternative ending to, as well as be overall more accessible to newcomers of the series. Myself, having only ever seen the original series, finally viewed all four films in succession to have a complete, fresh take on the updated version of the series. I decided to break down each film with my thoughts and provide an overall opinion at the end; here are my thoughts on The Rebuild of Evangelion. The first film in the series is almost a full one-to-one retelling of the first half of the animated series. It does a fantastic job of explaining the world setting, characters, and overall mood of the series. While taking obvious liberties cutting numerous scenes, it's amazing how it is still able to ...

My Inside

Image
This isn't going to be fun, but it is going to be honest. As my hands shake while typing this, I want to preface what you're about to read: some of it are my thoughts on the world, humanity, and relationships, most of it, though is just my personal story. One important thing to say is, I wouldn't have come to the point of being able to write this if it wasn't for Bo Burnham's "INSIDE." If you want a visual representation for much of what I'm trying to say, please go watch it. For many people, the year 2020 was a terrible year. For some, even the worst year of their lives. For me, it was... life changing. Some people know the stories. Others have heard, but they don't understand. Like many, I often put on a façade and pretended all was well, even if it wasn't. This is my coming out; my soul to bear for all to hear. I'm tired of keeping this inside. In 2020, I lost my job, I was evicted, and I gained weight. Each of those greatly affected me,...

Pokemon Generations Reviewed and Ranked

Image
With the Pokemon franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary, now's the best time to look back and reminisce on some of my fondest memories from the series. Specifically, I wanted to rank and review each of the generations in the main line series. Starting with Generation one (Gen1) with Red and Blue on the GameBoy, all the way to Gen8 with Sword and Shield on the Switch. For each generation I'll be looking at the new Pokemon introduced, the region's design, the gym battles, the plot and overall lore, and finally the systems and mechanics implemented. Keep in mind, these are just my opinions and are all ultimately subjective. One important distinction, is that I won't be using nostalgia as a grading point. It doesn't matter when a generation came out, they will all be compared evenly among their merits and what they introduced to the Pokemon world. So with that, let the list begin! Gen1:  Red , Blue , Green ,  Yellow Generation One, the start of it all. The first 151...

Haikyuu!! is a Fucking Masterpiece!!

Image
If you aren’t already on board, the craze that is Haikyuu has already been going strong since 2014. Currently on its fourth season, and as astounding as it may seem, the show keeps getting better and better. Even its slower parts show incredible character depth and development. The writers of Haikyuu have such a talent for making everything matter. And I mean everything. Every character matters, from the players on the teams, to their friends and family, to the narrating couple on a date watching the games who could have their own spin-off manga. Every setting matters, such as the new large stadium whose high ceilings affect the players depth perception. Every animation matters, using comedic anime tropes during down times and intense uses of sakuga during epic ones. Every detail matters.      Thankfully this latest season showcases this on all fronts. The season sees our titular team, Karasuno high competing at their highest tournament level thus far...

Reflecting on The Reflection

Image
This year for anime has truly been a great one already, and this current season is no exception. With one of my largest currently watching lists in a while, there's so much diversity and uniqueness to the shows this season. One such show that I feel I must discuss is one that has been truly divisive, and generally touted as "not good" mainly due to its choice in art direction and animation. However, I feel like this is such a disservice to the show as has incredible voice acting, excellent pacing, and one of the best stories of any show this season, in my opinion. That show is The Reflection. The Reflection is a truly unique endeavor as it is a brain child of Marvel's own Stan Lee, including production credit to his own POW! Entertainment, and animated by Studio Deen. The art is...unique to say the least, and is the immediate barrier most face when first watching it. With an almost cell-shaded, intentionally 2-dimensional look to it, it effectively looks lik...

An Inside Joke Story

Image
In a small village in the south of the country, there was a young man who loved to write. He would write about anything and everything: recounting the events of his day, making stories to tell to his family, or just write about the things he observed. One day, his mother asked him to go to the nearby market to pick up some items. She gave him a list, and set him on his way. His JOURNEY began at the edge of the village, where one of the guards stood watch. He was a fine guard, but had poor vision due to the fact that he had BROKEN GLASSES . Upon seeing the young man approach, he merely saw a blurry figure, and whispered to himself worriedly, “Oh no. WHO’S THAT GUY? ” He stood at the ready in case of a squabble. “Who goes there,” he said once the young man was in ear shot. “Um, it’s me, OFFICER HARVEY . I’m off to the market to retrieve items for my mother,” replied the young man. He recognized his voice at once, “Ah! So sorry! I’ll open the gate for you!” “Thank you si...
