I just beat Destiny 2: WitchQueen


I finished my playthru of the WitchQueen Campaign and I wanted to share my thoughts for those interested. Keep in mind, I'm a casual fan who just returned to the game after a long hiatus, so there's a lot about the game I still don't know/understand. But I'll mostly be talking from a lore/story point of view anyway.


So let's get this out of the way, this was an incredible campaign just like everyone had said. I was worried going in that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but thankfully it did. From the investigative mystery theme, to the pacing of unique encounters, to the story revelations and implications, I think this was probably the best single campaign they've ever done. (I haven't played Lightfall yet, but I've seen... a lot...)


I learned quite a lot about the overall story that filled in many missing pieces. I think it did a great job of tying in momentous events of the past while paving the road for the future  final conflict. In many ways it feels like the "Empire Strikes Back" for the Destiny storyline. There's another comparison I'd like to make which ties me into my next point: Destiny's campaign stories are just a shounen anime with too much filler.


While this isn't a bad thing, it is frustrating when the compelling parts of Destiny's plot gets going and then all of a sudden it feels like an expansion or new season takes a sharp turn. Like Bleach in the Aizen arc (Witchqueen), setting up for the Blood War Arc (Final Shape), but for some reason we go Fullbringer (Lightfall). It felt this way thru multiple seasons with random storylines, new antagonists out of nowhere, and of course, the returning villain that never dies.


But overall, I was very pleased with my experience with the WitchQueen. It has gotten me reinvested into Destiny (at least from a story perspective) in a big way. I still don't think I'll touch Lightfall anytime soon, but I'll probably stick around for the Final Shape at the very least! Thanks for reading!

Fall 2013 Anime Thoughts

Just finished up this season's round of anime. Overall I was pretty pleased with the how many unique shows there were this season. "Kill la Kill" made a strong first impression, but could've used more depth. On the other hand "Valvrave the Liberator" was drenched in heavy themes and an amazing story, but the ending left me slightly dissatisfied. "Arpeggio of Blue Steel" showed what I believe to be  the future of digital animation in anime, but also did a poor job of resolving all of its story's issues. Finally, my biggest surprise and probably one of the most underappreciated anime this season, "Kyousougiga" turned out not only to be my favorite show this season, with fantastic music, gorgeous visuals, and an amazing storyline it has elevated itself to be included amongst my top 5 favorite anime of all time! This isn't going to be fun, but it is going to be honest. Pokemon Generations Reviewed and Ranked

With the Pokemon franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary, now's the best time to look back and reminisce on some of my fondest memories from the series. Specifically, I wanted to rank and review each of the generations in the main line series. Starting with Generation one (Gen1) with Red and Blue on the GameBoy, all the way to Gen8 with Sword and Shield on the Switch. For each generation I'll be looking at the new Pokemon introduced, the region's design, the gym battles, the plot and overall lore, and finally the systems and mechanics implemented. Keep in mind, these are just my opinions and are all ultimately subjective. One important distinction, is that I won't be using nostalgia as a grading point.
